Would it be a bit biased that I gave a critique during Valentines Day? hahaha.. XD
For your first question, your white contrast is quite okay. You don't want to use other color because it will ruin the color balance with your background. The sharpness and focus are quite okay as well. That's a good point to your picture.
Background is okay. But your bokeh looks a bit distracting on some areas especially in the top center going to the right portion of the picture. So you need more practice on that area. Make sure that the flow of the bokeh is not disrupted to make it more pleasant to the eyes.
Now, I'm wondering why you used the a darker tone together with the red one and a heart with a rough texture. Does this mean you look at love at a negative perspective? Not to mention, it's only single heart in the picture. Alone.
I keep thinking of the connotation: "Single Awareness Day"
hahaha.. XD
But over all, it's a very nice picture.
I wanted a rough texture for the heart, because I think, love isn't always great and smooth. You have to work for it and sometimes it could be hard. Also didn't want to show a single heart. The shadow of the white heart should be the second one. This should symbolize that they can't exist alone.
I forgot about that shadow over there. But having your own shadow can also mean that just having your own self to be there for you. Of course, we can't exist without our shadows but wouldn't it be better if another shadow comes along and give company to us?
Just a thought though. XD
I think it is quite a lovely piece as it is. The red background and bokeh are just beautiful. I don't think the background it too dark at all and I think white is a fine contrast against the red because you want it to stand out and be seen. However, personally I'm not sure about the texture of the heart - it looks really rough and to me that doesn't really connote with the love message or atmosphere. I dunno, maybe a smoother heart or something with a different texture might work.
Is the 2nd heart you want to emphasise the white heart's shadow at all? Or is it just the bokeh? Because I can see the shadow but not quite. I think it would be quite interesting if you played a bit more emphasis on the shadow by playing with the angles a bit more.
To me it looks like the white love heart is looking up at a universe of lovehearts in the sky, like stars. It would be interesting if this shot was wider, emphasising the space in the background a bit more.
I hope you find this critique useful!
The second heart is the shadownof the white one. I wanted to show the connection between two perons, if they are in love. The hearts can't exist without eachother. i tried a few angle of views, but it was a bit hard to show the shadow as well as the bokeh. This version worked best for me. But I'll keep in mind to play more with the focal length.
You have such a wonderful shot here, but about the contrast I think it's just a little hard but it's ok though. It's like just putting the emphasis on it. The right top corner of the background kind of distracts me, I think it's quite dark. It's like when looking at the whole picture my attention is deviated to that corner. Just minor adjustments and this will be perfect.
